Exhibition galleries

Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 7:45 PM (galleries open at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Please note that the last admission for exhibition visitors will be 45 minutes prior to closing.

Library

Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 7:45 PM (the library opens at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Staff retrieves materials up to 45 minutes before the library closes. Reading room closes 15 minutes before the library.

An advance appointment is strongly encouraged for all researchers. Please log-in to your Portal1791 account to select your preferred visit dates.

Upcoming Closures

• The MHS is closed Thursday, November 28 through Saturday, November 30, for Thanksgiving weekend. 
• The Library closes early at 4:45PM on Tuesday, 3 December.
• The Library closes early at 2:00PM on Thursday, 12 December.
• The Library is closed Monday, 16 December through Friday, 20 December. 
• The MHS is closed Saturday, 21 December 2024 through Wednesday, 1 January 2025, for winter recess.
• The MHS is closed Monday, 20 January, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
• The Library is closed on Tuesday, 11 February. 
• The MHS is closed Monday, 17 February, in observance of Presidents' Day. 
• The MHS is closed Monday, 21 April, in observance of Patriots' Day.
• The MHS is closed Saturday, 24 May through Monday, 26 May, in observance of Memorial Day.

Admission

The MHS is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome in the galleries; library readers must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult.

The MHS is located in a Nationally Registered Landmark building. It is equipped with a wheelchair ramp, interior ramps, and elevator that allow visitors with mobility impairments access to our reading room, exhibition galleries, and other public meeting spaces.
